Visas 2021

Visa Changes 2021, Post Brexit

  • From January 1, 2021, the UK ceased to be a member of the EU and implemented a new immigration system.

  • The most important change is that anybody with the right to be in the UK can now study English full--time for up to 6 months. A Study Visa is no longer needed for full-time courses of less than 6 months' duration.

Up to 6 months:

  • EU, EEA and Swiss nationals may study English full-time for up to 6 months without a visa. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens can continue to enter through the E-gates (if they have a biometric passport) and do not need to get their passport stamped. Countries in the EU and EEA can be viewed at https://www.gov.uk/eu-eea

  • People from non-visa national countries will get their passport stamped on arrival, and be given a 6 month Standard Visitor Visa. You are permitted to study full-time on the Standard Visitor Visa for the whole 6 month period of its duration. Richmond English School is happy to provide supporting documentation in the form of a letter confirming your course booking on receipt of payment of your invoice.

  • If you are a citizen of a visa national country, you will need to apply for the Standard Visitor Visa before you depart your own country. If your visa application is successful, then you are permitted to study full-time on the Standard Visitor Visa for the whole 6 month period of its duration. Richmond English School is happy to provide supporting documentation in the form of a letter confirming your course booking on receipt of payment of your invoice.

6 -11 months:

  • Anybody wishing to study for longer than 6 months, whether EU, non-visa national, or visa national, will need a Short Term Study Visa.
